Ganesh Prajapati and his wife, Amrita Devi, were arrested on Saturday for the murder of Ganesh's 9-year-old nephew, Abhishek. The couple confessed to killing the boy in an act of vengeance after Amrita was frequently teased by Abhishek's mother for being childless.
Abhishek had gone missing on January 25, and Ganesh had filed a missing person report to divert attention. His body was later discovered on January 31 in a dam on the Ghaghra river. Police, along with SWAT and surveillance teams, investigated the case, and call details eventually pointed to Ganesh and Amrita's involvement.
During interrogation, the couple revealed their plan. Ganesh took Abhishek on his bicycle, then later on his motorcycle to the riverbank, where he fatally struck the boy with a brick and disposed of the body in the water. Ganesh had threatened another local who had assisted him in luring Abhishek away.
