Couple Drown 7-Year-Old Niece in Water Tank Over Grudge
4 Oct, 2025
Summary
- 7-year-old girl murdered by maternal uncle and aunt
- Victim tied up, gagged, and pushed into water tank
- Accused had lost their own child and blamed victim's mother
On Tuesday, a 7-year-old girl in Hyderabad went missing from her grandmother's house. Her body was discovered the next day in an overhead water tank at the same residence. After a detailed investigation, police have now arrested the girl's maternal uncle, Sami Ali, and his wife, Yasmeen Begum, for her murder.
According to the authorities, the couple had a long-standing grudge against the victim's mother, Shabana Begum. They believed that Shabana's "black magic" was responsible for the death of their own 3-and-a-half-year-old daughter in November 2024. The accused also resented the victim for frequently visiting their home and making videos on her phone.
The investigation revealed that on the night of the incident, when Shabana had left the victim and her brother with their cousins, the couple lured the girl to the terrace under the pretext of a game. They then tied her hands with a bedsheet, taped her mouth, and pushed her into the water tank, covering the opening with a lid and a stone.
After the murder, the couple reportedly joined the family in searching for the child and even cried with the relatives when the body was discovered. However, the police were able to crack the case by verifying CCTV footage and questioning the family members, leading to the accused's confession.
The accused couple, who run a water plant business, will now be produced in court for judicial remand. This tragic incident has left the family and the community in shock, as they grapple with the devastating loss of a young life.
