A jury found animal trainer Kwong (Tony) Chun Sit and his girlfriend, Tingfeng Liu, guilty in connection with the deaths of 11 dogs. Sit, who ran Happy K9 Academy, and Liu were convicted for their roles in the July 2025 incident. The dogs reportedly died from heat stroke after being left unattended in a van. Prosecutors noted that one dog, Rosie, also suffered blunt force trauma.
Following the dogs' deaths, Sit and Liu allegedly cremated the animals to hide the circumstances. Sit sent text messages to owners falsely stating the dogs died peacefully. Liu reportedly assisted in disposing of the remains at various crematoriums to avoid suspicion. Irvine police began investigating after owners shared the suspicious text messages, leading to the couple's arrest as they prepared to flee.
