Summary
- A couple was arrested for peddling ganja and intoxicating tablets.
- Authorities seized 2,100 drug tablets worth 6 lakh rupees.
- The couple sourced the drugs from Bengaluru for sale in the city.
In a significant bust, Kuniyamuthur police apprehended a couple, identified as 20-year-old Fathima Sahana and 26-year-old Salman Khan, on Sunday. They are accused of distributing both ganja and a substantial quantity of painkiller tablets. The operation led to the recovery of 2,100 intoxicating tablets, estimated to be worth around 6 lakh rupees, along with a small cache of ganja.
Investigations indicate that the couple acquired the drugs from Bengaluru with the intent to sell them in Coimbatore. Salman Khan has a prior record with nine pending cases related to narcotics and theft, while Fathima Sahana faces three cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. It is believed Salman Khan was using his wife to procure the contraband due to being under police surveillance.
Fathima Sahana reportedly concealed the illicit substances within clothing during her travels from Bengaluru. Police sources also noted that she has a daily addiction to the drug pills she was trafficking. The arrested couple has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the drug network.
