A corrupt prison guard, Jason Thompson, has been sentenced to four years and six months for his involvement in a smuggling ring at HMP Isis. He admitted to acting as the crucial link between an external gang and inmates, facilitating the illicit entry of drugs, mobile phones, and USB sticks.
Thompson received payments ranging from £400 to £600 for each package smuggled into the prison. The gang, including brothers Olusegan and Adedayo Shobanjo, prepared a significant quantity of USB sticks loaded with content such as Xbox games, TV programmes, and pornography for the prisoners.
Further convictions resulted from investigations following the interception of contraband. Olusegan Shobanjo received a five-year sentence for his role as the ringleader inside the prison. Other gang members and Thompson were sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court and Knaresborough Crown Court for their respective roles in the conspiracy. Adedayo Shobanjo is currently awaiting sentencing.
