A 25-year-old man, David Gallagher, has been formally charged with the murder of his mother, Stella Gallagher, and the assault causing harm to his father, Brian Gallagher. The incidents allegedly occurred at their residence in Shrewsbury Downs, Cork, on November 17. Mr. Gallagher appeared before Cork District Court, where he was remanded in custody.
Gardai arrested and detained Mr. Gallagher for questioning. During the court appearance, evidence of arrest, charge, and caution was presented. The accused, who is unemployed, was granted free legal aid. His legal representative requested urgent medical and psychiatric evaluations, which the judge granted, directing that he receive care in prison.
Stella Gallagher tragically died at Cork University Hospital following the alleged stabbing. Her husband, Brian Gallagher, also allegedly stabbed at their home, remains in a stable but serious condition at the same hospital. The court has scheduled the next appearance for November 26, with Mr. Gallagher to appear via video link.
