Homeowner Loses $19K to Alleged Contractor Fraud

A Ranlo woman faced a range of emotions after hiring a contractor for essential home renovations, including adding a bedroom and bathroom. Kaitlyn McAndrew reported that the contractor, Chad Brezeale, consistently delayed work with a series of excuses, such as ear issues and lost keys. When work was done, McAndrew found it to be of poor quality, with mortared bricks that could be moved by hand and a hole left in the floor for weeks.

Growing concerned about the lack of progress and contact, McAndrew contacted the police. Brezeale was subsequently arrested and charged with obtaining property by false pretense. The financial impact on McAndrew is significant, totaling $19,000. Court records reveal that Brezeale has reportedly faced similar accusations before, including allegedly taking $5,000 from another individual for roof repairs.

Despite the ordeal, McAndrew remains determined to stay in her home, where she and her family have celebrated life milestones. She has hired a new contractor to finish the job and repair the damage. McAndrew is pursuing legal action to recoup her losses. Authorities confirmed an ongoing investigation but declined further comment. An attorney advises homeowners to pay no more than one-third upfront and to research contractors thoroughly.
