A serious salmonella outbreak linked to 'Mr Porky' pork scratchings in June 2021 resulted in a significant legal settlement and fines for Tayto Group Ltd. Ruanda Davis, from Cardiff, was hospitalized for five days after consuming contaminated snacks, suffering severe vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Her illness was exacerbated by her impaired mobility, leading to a fall and head injury.
Months later, in August 2021, the company recalled its products after 179 people reported similar symptoms. The outbreak ultimately affected 600 individuals, with 35 requiring hospitalization. Tayto Group Ltd pleaded guilty to placing unsafe food on the market and failing to protect against contamination.
