On the evening of October 13, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Nizamabad district when a constable was stabbed to death by an automobile thief. According to the police, 48-year-old Central Crime Station (CCS) constable E Pramod was part of a team that had received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the wanted suspect, Sheikh Riyad.

Pramod, accompanied by a sub-inspector, went to apprehend Riyad, who was a habitual offender involved in automobile theft, burglary, and chain snatching. The constable had requested his brother-in-law to join him on the operation. When they located Riyad, he was made to sit on the bike driven by Pramod to be taken to the police station.

However, during the journey, Riyad suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Pramod in the chest. The sub-inspector tried to intervene, but Riyad also injured the officer's finger before fleeing the scene. Pramod was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The Nizamabad police commissioner, Sai Chaitanya, visited the crime scene and is supervising the investigation to nab the absconding accused. Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy has expressed grief over the incident and instructed the district police to apprehend the suspect.
