A 25-year-old constable attached to the Quick Response Team (QRT) faces charges of allegedly raping a 17-year-old student. The constable, Prateek Dharpal, reportedly initiated contact with the girl through Instagram in 2022. He subsequently invited her to his residence on August 17, under the pretext of celebrating his birthday. It is alleged that he then coerced her into a sexual act.
The victim, fearing repercussions due to the accused's position, did not report the incident immediately. The case surfaced on September 22 when the student collapsed at her school. Medical examination at the hospital revealed her pregnancy, prompting her to disclose the ordeal to her parents.
Following the student's disclosure, her parents lodged an FIR at the Gittikhadan police station. The accused constable was subsequently arrested earlier this week in connection with the alleged rape.
