On July 14, a Columbus police officer was the victim of friendly fire while responding to a domestic dispute. The incident unfolded just after 6 p.m. at an apartment complex on the city's Northeast Side.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a Rottweiler. An interaction occurred between one officer and the dog, during which the officer attempted to shoot the animal. This attempt resulted in the accidental shooting of a fellow officer. The wounded officer was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The dog was also reportedly struck by gunfire but appeared uninjured and was taken by Franklin County Animal Control.
