Podcast Revives Decade-Old Colorado Murder Case

The Aurora Police Department in Colorado is employing a novel approach to solve the 2016 murder of Chelsea Yasser, a 21-year-old who moved to the area from Arizona just weeks before her death. Authorities have launched a five-episode podcast series, "The White Whale - The Chelsea Yasser Story," in an effort to generate new leads.

Yasser was brutally attacked and stabbed in a parking lot on May 15, 2016, shortly before 10 p.m. A caller reported finding her after she was forced into a maroon van captured on grainy surveillance footage. While the footage shows the abduction, its poor quality has prevented investigators from identifying the vehicle or the driver, leaving the case stalled for years.

After exhausting initial investigative avenues, the case went cold. However, with the case now over a decade old, detectives are revisiting evidence, including pursuing new DNA analysis. The podcast represents a significant outreach effort, aiming to reach a broader audience and encourage the public to come forward with any information, acknowledging that someone might know the perpetrator.

The podcast aims to delve into the details surrounding Yasser's murder and the subsequent investigation, revealing more information than previously disclosed. Investigators hope that by sharing Yasser's story and humanizing her, they can encourage the community to help bring her killer to justice and provide peace to her family. This initiative reflects a growing trend of law enforcement using podcasts and social media to solve cold cases.
