William Antonio Solis, 62, has been arrested in Tampa, Florida, for a double murder that occurred in the Bronx over 30 years ago. Federal authorities apprehended Solis on Wednesday, bringing a close to a case that has deeply affected a family and the community since July 21, 1993.
Authorities allege Solis and accomplices entered Luis Guerrero's apartment intending to rob him of narcotics. During the incident, both Guerrero and his wife, Danis Sime, were allegedly bound and then shot execution-style. The couple's 3-year-old son was present and witnessed the horrific event.
Neighbors reported finding the child distressed outside the apartment after the incident. At the time, police were investigating Guerrero's suspected involvement in drug trafficking. Solis, who also went by the names "La Vega" and "Vegano," faces charges of intentional killing within a narcotics conspiracy.
If convicted, Solis could face the death penalty or life imprisonment. Investigators spent years meticulously working the case, ultimately leading to Solis's arrest more than three decades after the murders.
