Coimbatore city police have officially filed a chargesheet in the recent gang rape of a college woman, utilizing e-filing for the extensive document. The chargesheet, spanning over 40 pages, includes statements from 80 witnesses and details approximately 30 pieces of material evidence. This legal step was taken despite the pending potency test reports for the three suspects, with the case trial set to be transferred to the district mahila court.
Simultaneously, the Kovilpalayam police are seeking custody of the same three individuals, T Karuppusamy, T Kaleeswaran, and M Guna, for their alleged involvement in the murder of M Devaraj, a 55-year-old herder. Devaraj's body was discovered on November 6, days after he went missing while tending to his goats. His wife had filed a missing person report on November 5.
During a recent custody period with the Coimbatore city police, the accused reportedly confessed to assaulting Devaraj on November 2. They claim an altercation ensued when the herder questioned their presence and alcohol consumption in an isolated Serayampalayam area, leading to the fatal assault. This confession has prompted the investigation into the murder charge.
