Summary
- CISF organized a cyclothon to enlist coastal residents as sentinels.
- Women participation rose to 50% this year, enhancing community outreach.
- The initiative involves a year-long engagement with 52 adopted coastal villages.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has concluded its Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026, a significant initiative aimed at strengthening India's extensive coastline security. The event, which spanned 25 days from January 28 to February 22, saw two teams cycle nearly 6,500 km across nine coastal states and two Union territories, finishing in Kochi.
This cyclothon served as an outreach program, encouraging residents of coastal regions to act as "coastal sentinels." The goal is to transform millions of fisherfolk and villagers into partners in safeguarding India's maritime borders against threats like smuggling and infiltration.
A notable aspect of this year's event was the substantial increase in women's participation, rising to approximately 50% from less than 15% in the previous year. This rise aimed to improve communication and awareness within communities, recognizing the pivotal role women play in coastal life.
Beyond the cycling journey, the CISF has adopted 52 coastal villages. Over the next year, 47 CISF units will conduct year-long engagement programs in these villages. Activities will include building community infrastructure, cleanliness drives, and crucial awareness campaigns on drug trafficking.
The initiative, funded through CSR in collaboration with ONGC and port authorities, focuses on training residents to identify and report suspicious activities. This ensures a continuous, community-driven approach to maritime security, reinforcing the message that secure coasts are vital for national prosperity.
