Pike's Accomplices: Lesser Sentences After Gruesome Murder
8 Oct
Summary
- Two accomplices received lighter punishments for their roles in the 1995 murder.
- Tadaryl Shipp received a life sentence for his involvement.
- Shadolla Peterson pleaded guilty and received probation.
Two individuals involved in the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer received significantly lighter sentences than Christa Pike, who is on death row for the crime. Pike, along with Tadaryl Shipp and Shadolla Peterson, were classmates at Jobs Corps in Knoxville, Tennessee, when they lured Slemmer into the woods.
Pike and Shipp, who were a couple at the time, were convicted of torturing and murdering Slemmer. Shipp, then 17, was sentenced to life plus 25 years for first-degree murder and conspiracy. He stated involvement in Satanism and carved a pentagram into Slemmer's chest. Shipp was denied parole in October 2025 and will be eligible again in 2031.
Peterson pleaded guilty to being an accessory and received a six-year probation sentence. She had initially been indicted on a murder charge but took a plea deal. Prosecutors indicated they could only prove her presence, not active participation in the killing. Her public defender stated Peterson admitted being present but denied involvement in the attack.
