A violent incident occurred in Chitradurga's Malappanahatti area on Thursday when a 44-year-old man allegedly attacked five individuals, including his estranged wife and their daughter, with both acid and a machete. The accused, identified as Mohammad Suhail, reportedly attacked his wife, Tasneem Banu, and their daughter, along with Tasneem Banu's two sisters and one of their children.
The dispute between Suhail and his wife reportedly stems from marital discord, leading to their separation eight months prior. When Tasneem Banu's sisters, Nagma Naik and Neha, visited Chitradurga with their children, Suhail allegedly confronted them. He initially attacked his wife with a machete before throwing acid on all five individuals who attempted to intervene. All victims sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment.
Police have visited the scene and are investigating the acid attack, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kote police station. The SP stated that the accused, an auto driver, harbored resentment following the separation and assured prompt arrest and action. The wife expressed her distress, recounting his abusive behavior that led to her leaving.
The injured were initially treated at the Chitradurga district hospital and subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Davangere for advanced medical care.
