Awais Sheikh, 28, from Rotherham, has been sentenced to two years in jail for sexually grooming a child he contacted online. Sheikh used social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram to interact with the 15-year-old girl, falsely claiming to be 25.
He drove from Yorkshire to Telford with the intention of exploiting the child. During the encounter, he took her to McDonald's before proceeding to a secluded area near the Wrekin landmark. Police located the girl and Sheikh at the Wrekin, discovering condoms and cannabis in his vehicle's glovebox.
Sheikh was convicted of meeting a child following sexual grooming. His 22-month sentence was extended by an additional two months for activating a suspended sentence. The judge also mandated his inclusion on the sex offenders register for ten years.
