Ex-Chicago Cop's Warning: Daughter's Deadly Plot
2 Apr
Summary
- Cop predicted daughter would kill her mother years prior.
- Ex-boyfriend awaits U.S. trial for murder charges.
- Victim's granddaughter is thriving in new home.

Oak Park Police Sergeant Rasul Freelain had foreseen the tragic murder of Sheila Von Weise-Mack years before it occurred. Freelain had responded to multiple domestic violence calls at the family's home and had even arrested Heather Mack as a child. Von Weise-Mack had confided in Freelain that she believed her daughter would kill her.
Despite Freelain's attempts to provide support and resources, the abuse continued. Mack and her then-boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, were arrested in Indonesia for Von Weise-Mack's murder in August 2014. Schaefer served 11 years in Indonesian prison but is now back in Chicago facing federal charges, with his trial set for January 2027.
Mack, who was released from Indonesian prison in 2021 due to her pregnancy, is now serving an additional 26 years in the U.S. for the murder. Their daughter, born in an Indonesian prison, is now living in Colorado and is reportedly thriving.
Freelain, who is writing a book about the case, emphasizes Von Weise-Mack's vibrant life and the systemic failures that contributed to her death. He maintains contact with the family member raising Mack and Schaefer's daughter, who is doing well.
