Chester Angels: Volunteers Needed for Night Patrols

Street Angels Chester is actively recruiting volunteers to enhance the safety of vulnerable individuals within the city centre during weekend nights. The initiative, part of a global effort founded by the UK charity Redeeming Our Communities (ROC), relies on dedicated individuals to make a tangible difference. Volunteers engage in de-escalation, offer support, and help guide people safely home, especially during busier periods like the upcoming summer season and Chester racecourse events.

Currently comprising around 50 volunteers, the group addresses a range of issues, from cleaning up hazards like glass to assisting those affected by alcohol or difficult circumstances. Cheshire Constabulary officers highlight the invaluable role Street Angels play in deterring crime and simplifying policing efforts. Volunteers often walk up to eight miles per shift, working into the early hours to provide a reassuring presence and direct help where needed.
