Chennai: Three Officers Axed for Corruption, Collusion
28 Nov
Summary
- Three Chennai police officers suspended for misconduct.
- Officers accused of colluding with accused or accepting bribes.
- Complaints led to internal inquiries and transfers.

In Chennai, a significant crackdown on police misconduct has led to the suspension of three officers. An Assistant Commissioner of Police, a woman Inspector, and a Sub-Inspector have been removed from their posts pending further departmental action following internal inquiries into serious allegations.
Investigations uncovered that these officers allegedly colluded with accused persons in sensitive cases. Specifically, an ACP and a Sub-Inspector from Virugambakkam were found to have assisted an accused in a sexual harassment case, facilitating his anticipatory bail and departure from India despite an active investigation. This occurred after the complainant brought evidence of police collusion to the city police commissioner.
In a separate incident, an Inspector from Koyambedu was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1,500 from a woman seeking to file a complaint against her former partner. The complainant alleged that the inspector took the money, intended for medical expenses, without registering the case. A sting operation, involving the complainant calling the inspector in the presence of senior officers, confirmed the bribery allegations.
