17 Apr
Summary
- 100 new body-worn cameras procured by Chandigarh traffic police.
- Cameras aim to increase transparency and reduce confrontations.
- Previously deployed cameras were defunct, necessitating new purchase.

Chandigarh's traffic police are enhancing transparency and accountability with the procurement of 100 new body-worn cameras. These devices are intended to reduce confrontations between traffic personnel and violators at check posts.
The new cameras will be distributed to challaning officers following comprehensive operational training. This strategic move aims to ensure fairness and provide verifiable evidence in disputes, addressing concerns raised by both motorists and police officials regarding behavior during stops.
Each camera is equipped to capture high-quality photos, audio, and HD video, featuring 32GB of storage and a four-hour battery life. Data will be stored for approximately one year, and officers are mandated to keep cameras active during duty hours.
This initiative follows a period where challan issuance saw a significant decline, with over 23% fewer tickets issued in 2025 compared to 2024 across various violations like speeding and helmet use.
