Summary
- Widow sues cemetery for dropping husband's coffin at burial.
- Incident allegedly exposed deceased husband's remains.
- Lawsuit cites negligence and emotional distress for widow.

A grieving widow has filed a negligence lawsuit against Washington Memorial Park following a horrifying incident last year. On May 28, 2025, cemetery employees allegedly dropped the coffin of 88-year-old Abdulla Ghanni while lowering it into the ground, causing his body to be ejected and exposed before his horrified relatives.
Zinule Ghanni, 82, claims this traumatic event has caused her severe emotional distress, psychological injury, and loss of enjoyment of life. The civil complaint, filed on June 2, 2026, contends that the Long Island graveyard failed to properly maintain its casket-lowering device, acting with recklessness and carelessness.
The lawsuit further accuses the cemetery of ignoring clear signs of equipment failure and interfering with the widow's right to dispose of her husband's remains according to her wishes. Washington Memorial Park has been accused of negligent hiring, training, and supervision, and of violating New York Public Health Law regarding the disposition of dead bodies.
