Medical Examiner Rules Teen's Death a Homicide

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has determined that 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez died from multiple penetrating injuries, classifying her death as a homicide. This official finding was completed on December 9, 2025, but a court order delayed its public release until April 22, 2026.

Celeste's remains were discovered in September 2025 within the front trunk of a vehicle at a Los Angeles tow yard. Investigators noted significant postmortem changes to her body, indicating a considerable time had passed since her death. Toxicology testing revealed presumptive positive results for benzodiazepines and methamphetamine/MDMA.

Singer David Anthony Burke, also known as D4vd, has been charged with first-degree murder in Celeste's death. Prosecutors have brought additional allegations, while Burke's defense team has strongly contested the charges, stating evidence will prove his innocence.

Burke has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail. For Celeste's family, the report's release offers painful answers, with her parents seeking justice for their daughter, remembering her as a 'beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance.'
