CDC Windows Still Broken 7 Months After Attack
26 Mar
Summary
- Bullet-pocked windows at CDC remain unrepaired over seven months later.
- An attack in August involved over 180 shots and shattered approximately 150 windows.
- Officer David Rose was killed during the incident involving Patrick Joseph White.

Over seven months after a violent attack, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is still awaiting replacement of bullet-damaged windows. Acting chief Dr. Jay Bhattacharya confirmed the ongoing repairs are a priority for the agency. Employees had inquired about the papered-over panes during a recent staff meeting.
In August, Patrick Joseph White fired over 180 shots, breaking approximately 150 windows at the CDC campus. The attack resulted in the death of responding police officer David Rose. White, who had blamed COVID-19 vaccines for his depression, also died. No CDC personnel were physically harmed during the incident, though many experienced fear.
Officials noted that custom window fabrication and weather-dependent installation are contributing factors to the project's timeline. U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who oversees the CDC, has faced criticism for his response. Dr. Bhattacharya also mentioned that Kennedy approved a proposal to rename the CDC's road entrance after Officer Rose.
