CBI Nabs ED Officers Over Rs 5 Lakh Bribe Demand
23 Oct
Summary
- Two ED officials were arrested in a bribery case.
- A head constable allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh bribe.
- The bribe was for favorable action in an ongoing ED case.
An Enforcement Directorate (ED) head constable and an enforcement officer were apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on October 23, 2026. The arrests stem from an alleged bribery case involving ₹5 lakh at the ED's Lucknow Zonal Office. The CBI initiated a case following a complaint that a bribe was demanded to influence an ongoing ED matter.
According to the CBI's findings, the complainant's father had received two summons from the ED's Lucknow Zone in August and September 2026. The head constable reportedly solicited the bribe from the father, allegedly acting on behalf of an enforcement officer, in exchange for favorable treatment concerning the case.
The CBI set a trap and reportedly caught the head constable accepting the ₹5 lakh bribe. Both the head constable and the enforcement officer are now in custody, and the CBI is pursuing further investigations into the bribery arrangement and the potential involvement of other officials.
