A would-be burglar experienced a surprising and fearful encounter with a pet cat, leading him to abandon his crime and flee a Widnes property empty-handed. Callum Quirk, 27, had unlawfully entered a house on McClellan Place via a ground-floor window on September 9. While the homeowner desperately called emergency services from a hiding place, her cat, Nexi, emerged and confronted Quirk in the hallway.
Startled by the feline, Quirk immediately fled the premises without taking any items. Detective Constable Stuart Beswick commended Nexi's bravery, stating the cat's actions prevented a terrifying confrontation for the victim and secured her property. Nexi, a 13-year-old rescue cat, was adopted by the victim when she was one year old in Dubai.
