A vulnerable woman's care worker, Raymond Seaborne, 66, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for sexual offenses committed in 2024. Following the discovery, the incident was reported to Sussex Police. Seaborne was subsequently arrested and charged with engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered female and in her presence while acting as her care worker. He received a prison sentence and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Chief Superintendent Richard McDonagh of Sussex Police stated that while such crimes are "thankfully not especially common, but they do happen." He urged the public to report any suspicions with evidence, noting that this information is crucial for police investigations. The Care Quality Commission's guidance on surveillance suggests it may be appropriate in rare circumstances to identify specific incidents, provided privacy and human rights are protected.
