Mr and Mrs J C Walsh, the company operating Ambleside care home in Cheltenham, was fined £37,000 on April 30, 2026, after a resident's death. John Allen died ten days after a fall from a first-floor window on June 2, 2023. The investigation revealed that the window lacked adequate safety restrictors, allowing it to open more than 10cm.
This occurred despite assurances given to Mr. Allen's family that safeguards were in place to prevent him from leaving. The company pleaded guilty to failing to provide safe care. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) highlighted the failure to adhere to safety guidance, calling the situation unacceptable.
