Cardi B Fends Off "Absurd" Retrial Bid by Defeated Security Guard
13 Nov
Summary
- Security guard loses assault case against Cardi B, now seeks retrial
- Cardi's lawyers call retrial request "absurd" and "entirely frivolous"
- Jurors took only an hour to rule in Cardi's favor in September 2025

In September 2025, Cardi B emerged victorious in a civil assault case against a security guard who claimed the rapper attacked her outside a Beverly Hills doctor's office. The security guard is now seeking a new trial, but Cardi's lawyers have fiercely opposed the request, calling it "absurd" and "entirely frivolous."
In a scathing response filed in late October 2025, Cardi's legal team argued that the security guard, known as Ellis, "fails to establish any permitted grounds" for a new trial. They accused Ellis of making "patently false" allegations, ranging from "gratuitous" to "complete fiction." Urging the court to reject the motion, Cardi's lawyers stated that "speculation, knowingly false statements, and inaction are not grounds for a new trial."
The jurors needed only an hour of deliberation to hand Cardi a resounding victory back in September 2025. They found that Ellis failed to prove her claims that Cardi assaulted her, cutting her left cheek with a fingernail. Both sides agreed the women got into a verbal confrontation, but Cardi maintained she did nothing wrong, testifying that Ellis was the one who stalked her down the hallway and backed her up against a wall.
Cardi's lawyers have argued that Ellis is now relying on hearsay, such as claims that jurors may have been present outside the courthouse when a gossip blogger shouted questions at Cardi. They contend that Ellis failed to raise any concerns about this exchange at the time, and the jury was repeatedly instructed to consider only the evidence presented at trial.
