23 Aug
Summary

- A nearby Tesla captured crucial video evidence of the suspect.
- Deputies humorously dubbed the arrest part of their 'Felony Friday' series.

A quick car theft attempt on August 17 in Forsyth County, Georgia, was foiled by modern technology. A man saw an unattended vehicle with its engine running outside a daycare and decided to steal it. The owner had only left the car for about 30 seconds to drop off her child.
However, the victim's AirPods inside the vehicle provided law enforcement with a tracking beacon. As the AirPods guided deputies, a Tesla in the vicinity captured video footage of the suspect. The thief abandoned the car near a subdivision and fled on foot, leaving behind items that further aided the investigation.
Members of the warrant unit eventually spotted the suspect attempting to hitchhike and took him into custody. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office humorously shared the incident on social media, referring to the suspect as "Mr. 'I Didn't Think This Thru'" and joking about giving him a ride to the "Freeman Hotel" (the county jail). The victim recovered her vehicle, and the sheriff's office added the case to their "Felony Friday" series.
