A violent car park confrontation has resulted in a two-year and five-month prison sentence for Kurt Kirkham. The 36-year-old drove the wrong way down a one-way lane in North Shields, leading to a confrontation with a motorist and his family. Kirkham brutally attacked the father, fracturing his sternum with a kick, and assaulted the mother, breaking her finger and ripping out her hair. These assaults occurred in front of the couple's two young daughters, aged three and nine. The victims described Kirkham as an "unhinged" and "bully," highlighting the severe psychological impact and "lifelong trauma" inflicted on their children. Kirkham, who has prior convictions for violence, admitted to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Despite his history, he initially denied wrongdoing. The judge noted Kirkham's repeated pattern of "gratuitous" violence, stating he had learned nothing from previous opportunities. The incident occurred on 15 March 2025, around 14:00 BST.
