Trucker Arrested for Assaulting Teen on Way to School

Detectives have apprehended a 42-year-old Canton man in connection with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The victim reported that while walking to school after missing her bus, a man in a large truck stopped and offered her a ride. She accepted and was taken to a location in Canton, where she was sexually assaulted before being dropped off near her school.

Authorities were able to identify a suspect, Raymond Sookram, by using automated license plate reader technology. This technology helped corroborate the victim's account and develop a suspect. Sookram was arrested Thursday morning at his home and faces charges of Aggravated Child Molestation, Trafficking a Person for Sexual Servitude, and Interference with Custody. He is currently detained at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond.
