Officer Attacked Before Nottingham Murders
4 Mar
Summary
- Valdo Calocane attacked an officer during a mental health warrant execution.
- The assault occurred nearly two years before the fatal Nottingham attacks.
- The inquiry is reviewing events leading up to the 2023 killings.

A public inquiry is examining events leading to the 2023 Nottingham attacks, revealing Valdo Calocane assaulted a police officer two years prior. In September 2021, officers executed a Mental Health Act warrant at Calocane's home. He resisted, leading to him headbutting and punching PC Barnaby Pritchard during his restraint.
Body-worn camera footage, shown at the inquiry, captured Calocane's violent reaction, which included being tasered and handcuffed. Despite the assault, Calocane made comments to the officer, stating "you did good" and "you didn't go down." The inquiry, which began in February, has heard evidence from former neighbours and Nottinghamshire Police.
More than 100 witnesses are expected to testify over the next eight weeks. The inquiry also heard about difficulties police officers face when responding to mental health incidents, with one officer noting the need for specialists. Calocane was initially taken to a medical centre due to the taser deployment before a mental health assessment.
