A shocking incident unfolded in California when a newborn baby was discovered abandoned in an outdoor dumpster in the rain. On May 4, 2025, authorities received reports of a crying infant within a dumpster enclosure at an apartment complex. Responding officers found the baby moments later, breathing and crying, with his umbilical cord still attached and exposed to the rain.
Emergency medical personnel attended to the infant, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators determined the baby was likely born only a few hours before being found. The child's mother, identified as 26-year-old Astrid Nohemi Lopez Ramos, was arrested on September 17, 2026, more than a year after the abandonment.
Ramos has been charged with one count of child endangerment. She was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center with her bond set at $35,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 12, 2027. Police remind the public about California's Safely Surrendered Baby Law, which allows parents to safely surrender newborns within 72 hours of birth at designated locations like fire stations and hospitals.
