- A witness tip aided the investigation into the death of Amery Sweany.
- Ricky Singh Lasher was sentenced to 24 years for voluntary manslaughter.
- Lasher admitted to sexually battering another woman during the investigation.

A California man, Ricky Singh Lasher, 41, has received a 24-year prison sentence for his role in the death of Amery Sweany, who prosecutors believe he intentionally ran over in an orchard. The incident occurred in Marysville, California, in April 2023.
The investigation saw a significant development when a witness, who had read about the case in a local newspaper, contacted authorities. This witness provided details placing Sweany with Lasher in the days leading up to her death.
Surveillance footage from a Habit Burger parking lot captured Lasher interacting with Sweany and repeatedly circling her in his white truck. Prosecutors suggest Lasher may have offered Sweany drugs before attempting to sexually assault her. Sweany reportedly fought back and fled.
Authorities believe Lasher pursued Sweany in his truck, struck her, and then left her critically injured. Lasher was arrested in 2024. He pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and admitted to the sexual battery of another woman. He must register as a sex offender for life.
