Calgary police have announced significant success in 'Operation Guardian,' an initiative targeting drug trafficking. This operation, launched on September 26, 2026, employed a unique investigative analytics team combining organized crime enforcement with data integration and intelligence analysis. By analyzing crime data and geospatial information, police identified "hot spots" where drug and firearms activity was elevated.
Officers were deployed to these identified hot spots to disrupt criminal activity, gather intelligence, and conduct enforcement. Since its inception, Operation Guardian has resulted in 67 traffic stops, four drug trafficking investigations, five arrests, and 17 charges. These actions led to the seizure of 3.18 kilos of fentanyl, 175.5 grams of powder cocaine, 66.2 grams of crack cocaine, 701 fentanyl pills, and over $12,000 in cash.
Six individuals, including a 15-year-old Calgary girl and five adults, face charges ranging from possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking to possession of proceeds of crime and resisting a peace officer. The accused are scheduled for court appearances between November 4 and November 13, 2026. Staff Sgt. Matt Gow stated that the operation's proactive approach, driven by data analysis, is making a tangible difference in disrupting drug-related harm within the community.
