Ex-wife's killing: Accused undergoes psychiatric eval
22 Jul
Summary
- Man charged with first-degree murder in ex-wife's death.
- Accused sent for psychiatric assessment to determine mental state.
- Jury trial for the alleged murder is scheduled for mid-October.

A Calgary man accused of murdering his ex-wife, Anna Brazhko, has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment. Mohamad Anass Mahmou Al-Sahli, 48, faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Brazhko's death on March 4, 2025.
Justice Jane Sidnell approved the NCR (not criminally responsible) assessment, which will examine Al-Sahli's mental state during the alleged offence. This follows an application by his defence lawyers. A publication ban is in effect for the evidence and arguments presented at the hearing.
Al-Sahli's jury trial is currently scheduled to commence in mid-October. Previously, he had faced domestic violence charges including assault, choking, and forcible confinement, which were withdrawn after he entered into a peace bond with a no-contact order with Brazhko.
Investigators allege Al-Sahli broke into Brazhko's home in the Belmont neighbourhood early on March 4, 2025, and fatally assaulted her. He was arrested at the scene.
