Cafe Burgled Twice: Owner 'Devastated'
4 Jan
Summary
- Cafe broken into twice in 15 days, causing significant damage.
- Owner considered closing due to financial impact and violation.
- Community support and GoFundMe page have been uplifting.

Elie's Play Cafe in Crawley, West Sussex, has been the target of two break-ins within a short span. The cafe, which only opened a year ago, suffered forced entry and theft on December 14, 2025, and again on the evening of December 29, 2025. The burglaries resulted in smashed doors and the theft of the till and food.
The owner, Erin Zdrava, expressed that the repeated burglaries felt "violating" and the damage and financial strain brought her close to closing the family-run business. However, the strong support from the local community has been a significant factor in her decision to persevere.
A GoFundMe page initiated by relatives has garnered over £1,000, with many community members volunteering their help and services. This outpouring of support has revitalized the owner's determination, preventing her from letting the perpetrators "win" and reinforcing the cafe's importance to the local community. Sussex Police are currently investigating the incidents, with no arrests made to date.
