In a shocking incident that occurred on November 15, a cab driver was the victim of a brutal attack in Varsoli village, Maval taluka on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. According to the police report, the cab driver, Tatyarao Sapkal, was assaulted, robbed, and his vehicle was vandalized by two suspects.
The incident began when Sapkal stopped at a snacks center near the Varsoli toll plaza. Upon returning to his vehicle, he was confronted by the two men, who started verbally abusing him and accusing him of picking up passengers from the area. When Sapkal tried to explain that he was just there to have snacks, one of the men slapped him and then used a brick to smash the front and back glass of the car, as well as the tail lights.
The assailant then proceeded to bang Sapkal's head against a parked tempo and slap him again. The other man recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone. The duo also threatened to set Sapkal's vehicle on fire before eventually letting him go.
Traumatized by the assault, Sapkal initially chose not to file a complaint. However, after the video of the incident went viral on social media, the police urged him to lodge a formal complaint. An FIR was registered on November 16, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects. The search for the second assailant is ongoing.
Sapkal has expressed his desire for compensation for the damage caused to his vehicle and the strictest possible action against the perpetrators, stating that "nobody should be beaten up like that."
