28 Feb
Summary
- Undertrial prisoner died in Buxar Central Jail under suspicious circumstances.
- Family alleges injury marks not consistent with a heart attack diagnosis.
- Protesters blocked traffic and demanded a high-level inquiry.

A custodial death in Buxar Central Jail has ignited protests, with family members alleging foul play. Rajendra Kumar Singh, detained on February 12 for a liquor-related case, was pronounced dead on February 27 after reportedly suffering a heart attack.
However, his wife contests this, stating Singh was healthy during their last meeting and had injury marks on his body, suggesting he was beaten to death. She expressed his imminent expectation of bail on March 2.
The family's allegations prompted protests and a traffic blockade that lasted over two hours. Senior administrative officers intervened, promising a high-level inquiry and swift action against any guilty parties.
An FIR has been registered against jail officials based on the family's complaint. Protesters also alleged an attempt to coerce signatures confirming a sudden death due to jaundice. They are demanding compensation and government jobs for the widow, along with criminal proceedings against the officials.
