In Buxar, a local court has delivered a significant verdict, sentencing two men to two decades of rigorous imprisonment each. The conviction stems from the brutal gang rape of a woman and the subsequent viral dissemination of her photographs across social media platforms, causing severe humiliation.
The judicial pronouncement was made by the First District and Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge under the SC/ST Act. The convicted individuals, Deepak Ram and Kanhaiya Gond, were found guilty under Section 376(D) of the Indian Penal Code. Each was fined Rs 50,000, with the court stipulating this sum be provided to the survivor as compensation.
The disturbing events unfolded on September 14, 2023. The victim had visited Deepak Ram's residence for traditional treatment, where Kanhaiya Gond was also present. Prosecution alleged the victim was given an intoxicating substance, rendering her unconscious, after which the assault took place. She managed to escape and report the crime to her husband.
Following the survivor's complaint on September 17, 2023, police initiated an investigation, leading to charges under the IPC and the Information Technology Act. The court's decision was based on comprehensive evidence presented during the trial, including oral testimonies and biological samples, concluding the case with a firm stance against such heinous crimes.
