Bus Service Under Siege: Attacks Threaten Route
28 Sep
Summary
- Bus services may be withdrawn due to repeated attacks.
- Four vehicles were targeted in a two-hour period.
- Driver and passenger safety is a primary concern.
A bus company has issued a stark warning that it may cease operating services in parts of North Lanarkshire due to a recent spate of attacks on its vehicles.
First Bus made the decision to temporarily suspend the 240 service through Viewpark, near Bellshill, on Friday evening. This action was a direct response to four of its buses being subjected to missile attacks within a concentrated two-hour window.
Councillor Helen Loughran described the service, which connects Glasgow city centre to Overtown near Wishaw, as having been "under siege." She suggested that younger individuals might be responsible for these acts of vandalism.
In correspondence addressed to local politicians, First Bus articulated its inability to continue dispatching buses into Viewpark. The company emphasized that the ongoing safety of its drivers and passengers is paramount and cannot be compromised.
