John McDonald, 52, has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after a police chase culminated in the tragic death of Suzanne Cherry, 62. The incident occurred on April 11 last year at Aston Wood Golf Club. McDonald, who was driving without a license, led officers on a 12-minute pursuit, reaching speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone and ramming the police car.
The chase ended when McDonald drove onto the golf course, striking Mrs. Cherry, who was playing with her husband. Her husband witnessed the horrifying event and described how there was no time for his wife to react. Mrs. Cherry suffered severe injuries and died in hospital four days later.
McDonald, along with his son Johnny McDonald and Brett Delany, were also involved in a roofing scam targeting elderly and vulnerable individuals. They defrauded victims out of tens of thousands of pounds for unnecessary repairs. The three men are due to be sentenced for these offenses.
