Brothers jailed for illegal gun and sword stash

Two brothers have received five-year prison sentences after illegal weapons were found at a Harrogate property. Police executed a raid on October 11, 2024, discovering a modified blank-firing handgun, a samurai-style sword, live and spent ammunition, and a bag of cannabis. The modified firearm was identified as an illegal weapon. DNA analysis performed on the handgun led to the identification of Robbie Nelson, 27, and Charlie Roy Nelson, 31, as suspects. Charlie Roy Nelson was arrested at the scene and faced multiple charges, including possession of a firearm and drugs. He was sentenced on May 16, 2025. His brother, Robbie Nelson, was already in custody at the time of the warrant and was sentenced on Friday. Authorities emphasized their commitment to tackling gun crime, despite its rarity in the area. Detective Constable Amy Webster Gonzalez stated that the convictions demonstrate their dedication to removing illegal weapons from circulation.
