Police are investigating an incident where several individuals were observed entering the sewer system via a manhole in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood. The group reportedly descended around 11 p.m. on Thursday and reappeared approximately three hours later, early Friday morning. A similar event involving another group using a different manhole was also reported.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have since conducted thorough sweeps of the area. Both agencies confirmed that the sewer infrastructure is safe and free from hazards, with no damage detected to the system. Despite these assurances, officials emphasized that unauthorized entry into sewers is both illegal and extremely dangerous.
Authorities highlighted the numerous risks associated with sewer systems, including unstable surfaces, flooding, and confined spaces. They strongly advise the public against entering any part of the sewer network, such as pipes, drains, catch basins, or manholes, to ensure personal safety.
