A devastating incident occurred in Brooklyn when a 7-month-old girl named Kaori was fatally shot by a stray bullet. The tragic event unfolded on a Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight as her mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, was with her two young children and another man.
The family initially mistook the sounds of gunfire for fireworks. However, the reality was far more horrific, as Kaori sustained a fatal head wound while in her stroller. She was rushed to a hospital but sadly pronounced dead.
Authorities have described the shooting as gang-motivated, with the infant being an unintended target. The New York Police Department reported that two male perpetrators on a moped fired at least two shots. Surveillance footage showed the moped crashing a few blocks away, leading to the apprehension of one suspect who was injured.
A manhunt is currently underway for the second suspect. The mayor of New York City expressed his condolences, calling the event an "unthinkable loss" and emphasizing that such violence should not be normalized.
