A violent domestic incident on Saturday morning, February 28, in the Bronx led to the death of 42-year-old Yesenia Hall and the injury of her 16-year-old son. The attack, involving a knife, took place in their apartment on Sherman Avenue in Highbridge. Hall sustained stab wounds to the neck and torso, while her son was injured in the neck and back.
The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Juan Rivas. Following the assault, Rivas reportedly changed his clothing and fled the apartment. He was last seen wearing a neon vest and hardhat near a construction site at 163rd Street and College Avenue.
Police were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call reporting the assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered the mother and son with stab wounds. Emergency medical services transported both victims to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln. Hall was pronounced dead at the hospital, and her son was reported in stable condition.
