31 Jul
Summary
- Autistic teen starved to death, weighing only 60 pounds.
- Mother and grandmother face murder and assault charges.
- Teen's twin brother survived similar starvation and neglect.

In the Bronx, a 16-year-old boy named Adonis Jarvis, who had autism, died on March 19 after allegedly being starved to death. His mother, 36-year-old Geneva Jarvis, and grandmother, 62-year-old Denise Jarvis, were arrested and indicted on multiple charges, including second-degree murder. An autopsy confirmed the teenager died from starvation, and sources indicate he weighed only 60 pounds at the time of his death.
The boy's twin brother, also nonverbal, was hospitalized with starvation but survived. Both children exhibited signs of chronic neglect, starvation, and dehydration. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark stated that the two women failed in their duty to care for the boys, with one child now deceased and the other facing a long recovery.
Law enforcement described the family's apartment as filthy and uninhabitable. The building superintendent reported a significant accumulation of garbage and clothing, and noted the mother's consistent postponement of maintenance. Neighbors stated the family kept to themselves and did not observe any obvious red flags concerning the twins' well-being. The surviving twin is currently under state care.
