British Mother Murdered: Focus Shifts to South Africa Tour
10 Feb
Summary
- Police are interviewing women's football team members about a tour.
- Victim Karen Carter was stabbed to death in France last year.
- Detectives are exploring potential links to her South Africa trip.

Karen Carter, a 65-year-old British mother of four, was murdered in Trémolat, France, in April of last year. The investigation into her stabbing death has increasingly focused on individuals Ms. Carter may have met during a recent football tour in South Africa. Detectives have interviewed members of her over-50s French team, The Queens of Football, to identify potential contacts from the trip.
Originally, neighbours and Ms. Carter's French lover, Jean-François Guerrier, were arrested but later released without charge. French investigators have expressed frustration over difficulties accessing Ms. Carter's financial records in South Africa. The football team's tour began on March 30th, with Ms. Carter spending time with family in South Africa before her death.
Ms. Carter's body was found on April 29th with eight major wounds. DNA tests have not linked any local suspects, suggesting an outsider may be responsible. The possibility of a professional hit is being considered, particularly after a suspicious man was sighted near her home days before the murder. Ms. Carter was in the process of divorcing her husband, Alan Carter, and managing a significant rental business in France.
